Have you or someone in your family been putting off a dental crown or root canal because of the cost? You’re not alone. These procedures may be costly, and until now, MediSave could not be used for most dental treatments in Singapore.
That’s about to change. With the introduction of the Flexi-MediSave Scheme, Singaporeans and Permanent Residents aged 60 and above can now use their MediSave to help pay for permanent crowns and root canal treatments at CHAS dental clinics and public healthcare institutions.
This is part of the government’s effort to make essential dental care more affordable for seniors. For more details, you may refer to the Ministry of Health’s official announcement.
➤ Key benefit at a glance
Up to $400 per year
from your MediSave, for permanent crowns and root canal treatments.
Am I eligible for the Flexi-MediSave Scheme?
You qualify if:
✅You are a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident aged 60 and above
✅Your treatment is done at a CHAS-accredited and Flexi-MediSave-accredited dental clinic, or a public healthcare institution
Royce Dental Group is both CHAS-accredited & Flexi-MediSave-accredited.
Ready to find out what you're eligible for?
Can I use CHAS and Flexi-MediSave together?
Yes, in most cases you can use both together for the same eligible procedure, which can reduce your out-of-pocket costs even further.
Here’s how it works – just present your CHAS card (Pioneer Generation, Merdeka Generation, CHAS Blue, or CHAS Orange) at the clinic and our staff will process both your CHAS subsidy and Flexi-MediSave benefit on your behalf.
However, do check with our clinic staff before your appointment, as eligibility and claimable amounts may vary depending on the procedure and your age.
Please note that some out-of-pocket payment is still required, the subsidies help reduce your bill significantly, but treatments will not be fully covered at no cost.
What do I need to do when I visit?
Here’s a simple checklist for your next dental visit:
- Confirm that the clinic is CHAS-accredited and Flexi-MediSave-accredited. You can call ahead to check, or find your nearest Royce Dental Group clinic here.
- Inform the clinic that you are aged 60 or above and wish to use Flexi-MediSave for your crown or root canal treatment.
- Bring your CHAS card if you have one, and ask our staff whether you can apply both the CHAS subsidy and Flexi-MediSave to your bill.
- Ask your dentist about the costs for your treatment, so you have a clear picture of typical costs before committing to treatment.
What is not covered under the Flexi-MediSave Scheme?
The Flexi-MediSave Scheme is designed specifically for restorative dental care for seniors. It does not cover the following:
- Cosmetic dental procedures - such as teeth whitening, dental veneers, or orthodontic treatment.
- Treatments at non-accredited clinics - Flexi-MediSave can only be applied at CHAS-accredited and Flexi-MediSave-accredited clinics.
- Patients under 60 years old - if you do not meet the age requirement, the Flexi-MediSave Scheme does not apply. However, you may still be eligible for standard MediSave for certain surgical dental procedures.
Don't put off your dental health any longer
Dental problems rarely get better on their own.
A tooth that needs a root canal today may eventually require extraction if left untreated – a procedure that is more painful, more costly, and harder to recover from, especially as we age.
If cost has been holding you back from getting a dental crown or root canal treatment, now is a good time to act.
Visit any Royce Dental Group clinic, where eligible patients can make full use of their CHAS and Flexi-MediSave benefits and take that important step towards better oral health.
