Dr Valerie Shao graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the National University of Singapore. Upon graduation, she began her career at the National University Polyclinics, where she provided primary dental care to the community and was appointed Dental Officer-in-Charge.
During this time, she developed both her clinical skills and her ability to connect with patients. She later joined the National University Centre for Oral Health Singapore (NUCOHS), where she worked closely and learnt from a multidisciplinary team of dental specialists. This experience allowed her to further refine her clinical expertise, particularly in managing patients with complex medical conditions and communicating to patients clearly about their dental needs. At NUCOHS, she was also involved in providing tertiary care, including the management of dental emergencies, root canal treatments, dentures, and crowns.
Dr Shao is passionate about patient care and is committed to ensuring that every patient feels comfortable, supported, and well cared for. She believes in delivering the highest standard of treatment and regularly attends professional workshops to stay current with the latest advancements in dentistry. She also gives back to the community by volunteering at nursing homes, where she provides dental treatment to the elderly.
